11/26/2003 - 11:36 a.m. Hey kiddies, it's time for some facts. -The military (this would be the US military) owns 425 instillations nationwide, on 25 million acres Endangered Plants and Animals are protected by law. Except when they are on military owned land, or anywhere where the military decides to test its new equipment. You see, according to our beloved president, the military can now actively ignore any endangered species laws, hell, any environmental laws at all, because we need to train our troops better, in a more realistic way. By polluting and destroying anything they come in contact with. Oh, and they get some $401.3 billion for it. But not to worry, who cares if our land becomes more polluted, if more species die out, if our own health deteriorates. Our troops will be able to protect us better. And hey, it's not like all the negative stuff will happen in our lifetime, and by the time it does effect our children and theirs, well, we'll be long gone. Meanwhile, we can entertain ourselves by keeping up with the newest Michael Jackson spectacles. ** ** Some time ago, there was this tree growing in California. There was no apparent use for it, and so people cut it down and destroyed it whenever they could. Then, one day, a scientist had a bright idea to do some research on this tree, and it was found that it contains a component that can successfully fight HIV. The scientist returned to where this tree was, to get more samples and do more research, only to find that the whole forest had been cut down. The tree that had grown in such abundance that it was considered a horrible pest is now nearly extinct, and yet it is only now that we realize how much we need it. Room mate - 10/27/2005
